Anyway, yes you can transition to natural with out cutting your permed ends BUT yes, it is going to break off badly. What you can do is have the roots pressed while you avoid the excessive heat on the permed ends. THe year I decided to go natural I stopped perming in January. By June, I would cut off a couple inches and by August I had a bob. I decided to loc in late august and basically started with a fro. What you are referring to is called "the Big Chop" amongst natural women and it's described as a liberating feeling and most including myself wish they did it sooner than they did. Your permed ends will behave differently then the all natural hair and its fun to relearn your hair texture and how to manage it.
Yeah, I heard the "dyke" comments and I lost my mind comments but I did me and wouldn't go back and change a thang!!! Back permed now and don't regret that either.
