A rookie NYPD cop was stripped of his badge and gun on Monday after a stunning video captured him slamming a bicyclist to the ground in an apparently unprovoked attack.

Officer Patrick Pogan, 22, was placed on modified duty soon after the video of the Times Square incident appeared on YouTube.

The video showed two cops - one of them Pogan, according to law enforcement sources - standing in the middle of Seventh Ave. as as swarm of bikers rode by in a Critical Mass rally held Friday evening.

Without warning, Pogan seemed to single out one cyclist, jog toward the sidewalk and then slam his shoulder into the biker.

The impact sent the biker, clad in a white T-shirt, crashing onto the sidewalk in front of shocked onlookers.
Pogan and his partner then hovered around the fallen man and his bike.

Critical Mass, which advocates for better cycling conditions among other social causes, has long complained they are targeted by the NYPD.

Seriously, why would you start walking in the middle of a stampede of bikes, that clearly doesn't make sense. Then he got mad because him and the bicyclists were going to crash, but it would've made more sense if the policeman stopped instead of the bicyclists because the dude on the bike was in a marathon. Officers don't have respect for others, but demand the upmost respect and they think slow.

Well if you watched the video right you could see that the cop INTENTIONALLY crashed into the cyclist. He actually timed it so that he would. What an asshole. The cops on 42nd are usually really nice and helpful.
