One of the most respected beards in the NBA, Washington Wizards guard DeShawn Stevenson has been spending his summer dabbling in fashion. The athletics star announced to BlackVoice.com he has been spending his summer planning and plotting his 2Family clothing.

“I’m trying to push out 2Family, trying to get it out there, and hopefully it gets popping enough where I can start selling it,” Stevenson told the Washington Post’s Dan Steinberg. “Right now we’re making t-shirts, hopefully I can start making the hats. I have a lot of ‘em at my house. What I’m trying to do, you know how you create the buzz? Try to wear them, then people try to say, ‘Where’d you get them from?’ You know, I don’t want to put all my money into it and it doesn’t sell.”

While the short talk didn’t convey his overall vision for 2family clothing, it does get across the idea he’s focused on designing things what he likes. Not just backing a random Hip-hop clothing line, the 2Family clothing brand is inspired by his jersey number and the people responsible for his success. The number 2 (and 2Family) is tattooed all over his body and he made rubber bracelets with the name that he wears during games.

2Family is expected to be either a Hip-Hop clothing or Urban contemporary fashion line. From flashes of the pieces Stevenson has designed so far, expectations would be a bit of both but it’s a sure bet fans will see a more defined direction in time.
