Just One, one of the founders of IMPRM Clothing spoke to SoJones about the brand.
Introduce yourself and describe how your brand was started?
My name is Just One and I am one of the founders of Imperium. In 2007, through mutual business associates myself and Charlie were introduced at a nightclub I was running at the time. We began talking and felt like we could join forces and build something great. We were not talking clothing yet but BBQ sauce. (That is a whole other interview) We knew we wanted to put something together and after six months of hanging out at his house till the early morning,
the four of us were set on the clothing business.
Describe this season’s theme for your line. Include any sources of inspiration (examples: 80′s punk, muses like Amber Rose, 70′s disco bands, Kanye, etc)
A lot of the inspiration is drawn from our surrounding environment and the cultures that popularize our struggles we endure. We also like to find themes that represent a go getting spirit or paints a picture of someone’s rise to the top.
Any product placements on celebs to keep an eye out for (examples: publicity photos, magazines, movies, music videos etc)
I don’t know if she was able to pull it off but we floated hella clothes to Obama’s stylist. I think the “Bully Automatic” was his favorite.
What has been a surprise fashion hit over the last year? (a particular piece, a look or even another brand)
Skinny jeans is a movement I’m not really feeling! I carry a lot of things, I got 2 phones, (Charlie got 4 ) I got keys, wallet, a couple of stacks, cannon, etc. etc. You know what they say “can’t wear skinny jeans cuz…”
What current fashion trend would you like to see thrown overboard?
Skinny jeans not fashionable or functional
What is/was one of your most prized fashion pieces, past or present?
A fresh pair of Nikes, and my haircut.
