Marc Ecko

Street fashion lovers just have to give it up to Marc Ecko when it comes to creating edgy, daring and somewhat gimmicky clothing. The designer himself is known for his quirky style in merging fashion and pop culture into wearable, head-turning products. And it all started with a humble beginning consisting of a can of spray paint and six t-shirt designs. Since then, the brand has grown into a multimillion dollar business, covering fashion, publishing and entertainment.

This year Marc Ecko is gearing up for his new project. Teaming up with DC Comics and Warner Bros. Consumer Products, the designer is introducing co-branded, limited-edition collections inspired by Batman and select members of the Rogues Gallery including The Joker, Two Face, Mr. Freeze, Catwoman, Poison Ivy, Harley Quinn, Nightwing and Killer Croc.

WWD reports that the new collections will include hoodies, t-shirts, woven shirts, headwear and watches, all in dark and fashion-forward graphics inspired by the one and only Caped Crusader.

Last fall, Marc Ecko launched the label’s Star Wars Collection, and succeeded in leaving pretty deep marks within the Star Wars fans’ hearts with the Storm Trooper Hoodie, now sold out.

The year 2009 is the era of new ventures for Marc Ecko because aside from working hard on his Batman-inspired designs, he will also launch his self-named signature fragrance in September. His deal with fragrance licensee Parlux is following in the footsteps of hip hop mogul, Jay-Z, who recently signed not one but four celebrity-inspired fragrances to be produced by the cosmetics giant. About his deal with Parlux, Marc Ecko stated:

“I believe in getting out of the comfort zone so to that end I am excited to partner with Parlux to introduce my first fragrance. I can’t tell you yet what it WILL be — but it won’t be conventional. With the know-how Parlux delivers and my vision, I look forward to a fragrance unlike anything you’ve ever experienced before.”

The upcoming Batman / DC Comics collection will be sold under the brands Ecko Unltd, Marc Ecko Cut & Sewn and Zoo York, and juniors’ collections will be released under Ecko Red Label. The collection will be available in September 2009 in department stores across the country with a price range from $24 to $88.

I don't care what anyone says, you can hate on Marc Ecko's "commercial" style but can't knock his hustle. Who in streetwear wouldn't mind being as big as ecko?
