Streetwear Watch: ArtistiCreation

 artisticreation

There’s a new label in town. ArtistiCreation launched its streetwear clothing line in April 2009, featuring mostly graphic tees. Owners Marviel Underwood and Robert Ortiz love the urban lifestyle and they work to incorporate this into their ArtistiCreation designs.

Like many streetwear lines ArtistiCreation aspires to reflect today’s street culture and bases their works of art on music, style and life. And unlike many streetwear brands that come and go easily, ArtistiCreation was built after a strong research process. As Marviel Underwood stated:

“We have been toying with the idea of starting a line for ourselves for a while now. After much research and looking at what else is out on the market, we were confident that our time has come to put ourselves and our designs out there and make them known.”

Singer/Songwriter Tony Williams in ArtistiCreation gear

SoJones.com took a close look at the brand’s wares and their closeness to the music industry shows from day one. From posing R&B star Pleasure P in their creations to hooking up with Tony Williams, singer/ songwriter from Kanye West’s label “G.O.O.D. Music.” who hooked them up with an exclusive remix to the song “Amazin”, now featured in their blog.  The brand also supported up and coming singer, Musiq Soulchild in his concert.

ArtistiCreation revolves around what the owners did while growing up in the not so privileged streets of Oakland, California: “Creating Something From Nothing”. The brand tapped self-taught artist Artie Giles to come up with the concept and logo. On their MySpace page, ArtistiCreation made their vision and mission clear:

“We wanted to produce a brand that encourages people to create no matter what their circumstances are by being unique and thoughtful. We are not like any other random clothing line, but instead a self-made entity that produces according to how we live and what we feel. Every design and idea we come up with is well planned and thought out. Our team has created an image of having swag across the nation. We are representing every person who has the drive to do something, no matter if its music, art, fashion, or any other creative motive. A lot of these brands say they’re from the streets, let us welcome you to our world!”

To welcome you to their world, here are some SoJones approved ArtistiCreation t-shirts from their Spring/Summer 2009 catalog.
