50 Cent to introduce new fragrance Power

There’s a softer side of even the roughest guys, and this is in line with the saying we came up with: there’s a fragrance line for even the most notorious rappers. Take Curtis Jackson a.k.a. 50 Cent, following in the sweet-scented footsteps of fellow rappers: Diddy, Jay-Z and Common, who just inked up a deal with the newly formed Lighthouse Beauty. As WWD reported, 50 Cent will launch his men’s scent, titled: “Power by 50 Cent”, at Macy’s in Fall ‘09.

Lighthouse Beauty comprises of artist managers at Brand Asset Management, the celebrities they represent, and developers and distributors of luxury fragrances. The deal will be the first for Brand Asset Group, and Chris Lighty, CEO of the company praised 50 Cent for his keen spirit:

“The typical musician or actor might not know much about developing a fragrance or a skin care line, but he definitely wants to capitalize on his brand potential. After spending years bringing clients to major corporations to forge partnerships, I wanted to take that synergy to the next level by establishing a destination for artists and celebrities to create and distribute their brands from start to finish. What we’ll do at Lighthouse Beauty is not only transform a name into a product, but also take that product from its inception to the shelves.”

According to Lighty, the company is open for more collaboration opportunities and will not be limited to those celebrities represented by Brand Asset Management.

“Power by 50 Cent” turned out to be the latter’s choice for the fragrance’s title. Originally, 50 considered naming his fragrance “Relentless”. But he held back, saying that the world isn’t strong enough to be received by the international community.

“That word doesn’t translate worldwide. I want this to be an international brand, and Power translates in every language. In some countries the word ‘less’ in ‘relentless’ actually means ‘less.’”
