Kanye West Interning for Gap… exactly um, why?

To say it’s a unique move to intern in the fashion world when one has already contributed to it in numerous ways is..different. Not necessarily strange, but leaves one to wonder, why? Because Kanye wants to learn the industry in and out. It’s up to you to decide if so far he’s been doing a good job or not..

Besides being a trendsetter known to make funky sped up soul samples work for the likes of (most notably) Jay-Z, Kanye, when asked in an interview with the Louis Vuitton Resource Center  why he started designing sneakers, states “Because they’re a great entry point for people who can’t afford the (Louis Vuitton) trunk, you know? Also, sneakers, I think, are a way of displaying where you are mentally.”

Certainly. And where would one be at mentally, sporting the Louis Vuitton Jaspers?

Kanye’s main reason for wanting to intern at the Gap headquarters in New York, working very closely with the brand’s creative director, Patrick Robinson, is to learn everything about the fashion industry before launching his own clothing line.

And this is a non-paid gig; he must be serious about making this step in his career. Definitely a good choice, even if it is at Gap of all places. We’ll have to see after this summer what Kanye has learned.

In related  news, there is an opening for a graphic designer to work for Kanye’s clothing line, Pastelle. Check it out here. Hurry before time runs out!

Reader, do you think Kanye’s internship at Gap was a wise choice? Let’s hear it in the comments!

I think its smart, though sort of strange, that he is interning at the Gap. Even though that may not be his style or niche market, he is going to learn a lot about running a successful clothing line and business. I don't think its relevant if its unpaid. I'm sure he's still doing alright.
