The New Sparkle in Men’s Streetwear

GOLD FOIL PRINT FOR MEN BY CARDBOARD ROBOT

GOLD FOIL PRINT FOR MEN BY CARDBOARD ROBOT

Have you noticed that extra twinkle in your man’s smile? That extra shine in his appearance?  The glimmer in his eyes?

Sorry to disappoint you, but it’s all the glitter and shine of today’s streetwear fashions for men.

Rhinestones, gold foil, silver foil, metallic embroidery, elaborate embroidery details on t-shirts, shorts, hats, jackets, sneakers. These striking and festive looking urban details are also found on jeans that can cost upwards of almost $250.00-but they are must haves- trust me.

Young men have a strength and confidence today that allows for wearing rhinestones and glitter (long associated with women and “stage performers”) with pride.  Today’s urban designers are in touch with the current menswear trends and the urban male confidence in the “shiny look”. The latest collections are combining the use of metallics with avant-garde designed embroideries that use rhinestones, sequins, leather and metal on jeans to make a “royal’ statement– the “new bling” in men’s street wear.

Avirex, Baby Phat, COOGI, GGG, Cardboard Robotare all on board with the new prints. This look can be seen on all ages from pre-teens to adults. They are definitely a hit in the urban communities.

The elaborate yet wearable details find themselves on jeans as well. Designers keep the shine flow going in order for the urban fashionista to coordinate his threads for every day of the week and for every mood.

Crown Holder (CH) has some of the most dynamic jean detailing to date. The concept of the brand is of a royal, king-like attitude and life style. Regal attitude seems to be what the brand is about and their designs carry this message clearly.

Use of beautiful, bold and elaborate embroideries (using threads that are soft and don’t scratch the wearer) combined with velvet, rhinestones, embossed leather, metal hardware give the back jean pockets, waist band and front jean pockets a designer look.  The Crown Holder jeans with velvet, rhinestones and gold embroidered back pocket details (shown at left) is at Dr. Jays selling for $165.99 (formerly $245.00).  The back pocket details are so elaborate and beautiful you almost want to wear the jeans backward to show them off!  Or, keep them as a collector’s item.

Coogi has designed their “The God’s Favor You” T-shirt with metallic foil details and can range up to $65.00.

But let’s not forget about the ladies.  Baby Phat and House of Dereon as well as others are also up on the metallic foil and rhinestones screen prints for the ladies. They’ve got us covered with street chic feminine looks and cute T-shirts, sleep tees and jeans.

Leave all the heavy gold jewelry home guys, it’s passé.  The new cleaned up look using designer embroidered details and shiny trim interwoven into men’s streetwear garments is the newest wardrobe upgrade.

You are partially right. I appreciate your comments on my article. Like rock & roll, streetwear will evolve and be apart of the urban scene and apparel industry as a profitable business-with real consumers. Streetwear is going through an evolution. The change is every where. With the economy in the state it is a new attitude towards urban casual apparel is taking shape. Desire for jobs, education and having a new all around appearance is in the fore front for those moving forward.

The old idea and look of streetwear is obselete. The new casual-all inclusive streetwear is taking on a new shape-almost back to classics wthout the glitter and fan fare of the past..

"Shine" is simply the look due to nail heads, sequines and rhinestones used as "accents trim only" on the garment. This one particular fashion trend does not represent the entire streetwear trend and should not be taken so seriously. The basic clean cultivated casual wear will be timeless.
