Is Hip Hop about the Fashion or the Music?

Hip hop and fashion have always been intertwined. Apparel designers regularly steal inspiration and ideas from hip hop culture. Hip hop stars use clothes and shoes to portray a certain look or theme in their videos and photo ops.

Is it possible to have one without the other? Would a music video without fashion as a feature, change the way you think of the song?

Snoop Dogg’s “Gin and Juice”

This can mean different things of course; what do I mean by “without fashion”?  Without any clothes at all?

Conversely would a fashion show, missing a booming soundtrack, affect how you view the outfits being silently trotted down the runway? Imagine a hip hop-oriented South Pole fashion show with no accompanying music:

    It is very hard to imagine music without the music. Music is like the heartbeat to the world no matter the music it makes everything from clothes to traditions what they are

    yesss it would change the wholse aspect of it all!!!…. music && fashion is an art..th depend on each other…. but the clothing has to be upscale or designer…. NOT SOUTH POLE… OR WHAT SNOOP DOGG WEARS… try kanye,pharell,newboys… any of the abouve && a few more.

    A lot of designers for the hip hop world were more often than not underground designers that made it big after the stuff was featured in pics and vids. Sometimes it is the other way around where the artist is unknown but the people know and love the clothes so they listen and fall head over heels with the artist making them big.

    Music is the main part. If lil wayne came on stage with a linen cloth on do you think any1 would take tha tyme to listen to him….absolutely not…Clothes attracts viewers then tha muzik comes into play. I kno many people who like tha artist becasue of tha clothes they rock and not because the muzik they produce
