Pro basketball player, Rod Benson is among the lucky ones who are in touch with their creative side, and with the gift he created BOOMTHO Clothing. The clothing collection’s style is a crossover of street, skate, beach and swag, perfect for those who are the life of the party, and aren’t afraid of bright colors and making fashion statements. Let’s get to know BOOMTHO closer, as SoJones talks to Rod about his clothing.

Introduce yourself and describe how your brand was started?
I’m just a an athlete who likes to stand out and have fun. I started my brand because I enjoy wearing clothes that embody that mindset. I just want to wear things that coincide with my mindset.

Describe this season’s theme for your line. Include any sources of inspiration (examples: 80′s punk, muses like Amber Rose, 70′s disco bands, Kanye, etc)
The theme is “Sunday Funday.” The inspiration is really all those Sundays in the past where you wanted the perfect tee or tank for an afternoon of fun in the sun and drinks by the pool.

Any product placements on celebs to keep an eye out for (examples: publicity photos, magazines, movies, music videos etc)
Juelz Santana rocked on of our beanies on VH1′s “Love and Hip Hop.” Besides him, there are lots of pro basketball and football players wearing our hats and shirts all the time!

What has been a surprise fashion hit over the last year? (a particular piece, a look or even another brand)
The rise of the tribal print seems a bit random, but I like it. It’s an easy way to add color to a traditional cut and sew piece.

What current fashion trend would you like to see thrown overboard?
I think skinny jeans need to be re-retired. Go slim, but not skinny.

What is/was one of your most prized fashion pieces, past or present?
Our puzzling beanie has really done well for us. We have new colorways for the future and I’m excited for it. It’s pretty much the only one of it’s kind, so it’ cool to be on the forefront there.
