In Desperation News: Oprah Apologized For Begging Publicly

We were right.  Oprah shouldn’t have quit her day job to ‘take care’ of her OWN network.  Word has it that her O magazine’s sales has plummeted since last year, and now the media mogul actually came out to beg her Twitter followers to watch her network.  The saddest thing is, she tweeted this during the live broadcast of the Grammy Awards, and specifically referred to those with a ‘Nielsen box’.  Mega ouch.

Oprah released an apology “at the request of Nielsen” and added: “I intended no harm and apologize for the reference.” What seemed to be such a simple act turned out to be a major violation of Nielsen’s policy. The research company issued a statement regarding the incident:

“In accordance with our policies and procedures, Nielsen is reviewing this incident with our clients and we may withhold, breakout and/or make a note in the ratings. We take any violation of our policy seriously and will work with clients to resolve the situation.”

Turns out that Oprah has a new show on OWN called “Oprah’s Next Chapter” which happened to coincide with CBS’ Grammy Awards time slot. The Sunday night episode features Oprah’s talkshow session with a Hasidic Jewish family who has never watched a television ever.

Do you think what Oprah did was pathetic or necessary? Discuss!
