BET Hip Hop Awards ‘09: The Best and The Worst Dressed

The BET Hip Hop Awards was held October 10, 2009 at the Boisfeuillet Jones Atlanta Civic Center, in Atlanta, Georgia. Award shows like these are always on SoJones.com’s fashion radar and so it’s time again to spot who was hot and who was so not.

Let’s start with the eyesores, shall we?

What’s going on with Snoop Dogg?  It looked like he just rolled out of bed, put a shirt over his jammies and tucked everything in.  He even tucked his pants into his boots.  Where’s the swagger, Dogg?

The gangsta look used to be the ‘thang’ back in the 90’s, but to pull it even try it again in 2009 like Young Jeezy did, is plain lazy.

Rapper Lil Boosie is quite the opposite of Snoop Dogg who didn’t throw enough accessories.  Lil Boosie, sad to tell you that no matter how many chains you got on there, T-Pain still holds the record with his Big Ass Chain.  That being said, there’s one more sentence to go with it: Nice try.

Young Money’s new diva, Nicki Minaj, might have her debut album in the works for a 2010 release, but when she tried to work it on the BET red carpet… sorry it just didn’t come together. Here’s another look and you’ll know why girl’s workin’ it a little too hard.

Fatima Robinson almost got it right, but why oh why did she have to add the hat?  Totally ruins the whole asymmetric thing she’s got going there.

Now, to prove that there’s a thin line between Fly and Fugly, here are the best-dressed stars of the night (and trails of the fugly that follows).

Busta Rhymes looking like sexy chocolate in his butter soft leather jacket, posing with the beautiful Tocarra in her teal dress.

Never thought Soulja Boy would get over his “I’m-a-rapper-check-out-my-ability-to-purchase-luxury-brands” phase. He now wears Gucci with the right touch. Jim Jones also looking mighty sexy in his well-worn jeans and Timberland boots.  If you get it right, less can indeed be more.

Loving Red Classic’s jacket and subtle red accents on black.  Is red really the color of the year in hip hop now?

The touch of red also grazed Ace Hood’s aviator shades and kicks.

White Terelle Jessica a.k.a. Jessica White looked awesome in her black on black mini dress and leggings.  She refused to go with the red accents and went with silver heels instead.  Total fab.

Also in black, but with so much more skin, Angel Lola Luv lives by the saying: “If you got it, flaunt it”.  Works for everybody else within eyeshot too.

Completing the ladies’ favorite black-on-black look, singer Monica looked hot in her black suit.

BET VJ Alesha Renee looked real fine in her little black asymmetric dress.  SoJones.com’s editors would’ve picked her as the best-dressed celeb in the event, but seeing as this is not New York Fashion Week, there’s one person more appropriately dressed for the occasion…  

Yung Joc will sleep real well in his Adidas trainers because he’s been dubbed SoJones.com’s best dressed at the BET Hip Hop Awards ‘09.
