Why So Many Rappers in Jail??
It’s a really sad thing to witness so many rappers getting locked up. As of now, 4 rappers come to mind; Lil Wayne, Lil Boosie, T.I, and Gucci Mane. The transgressions and sentences vary, but the average time to be served is 6 months to a year. Maybe rappers think it adds credibility to their career when this happens?
Here are your four currently incarcerated rappers, ladies and gentlemen:
1. Lil’ Boosie (real name Torrence Hatch) From: Baton Rouge, LA

The verdict: On October 22, 2008, Boosie was arrested after East Baton Rouge sheriff’s deputies found marijuana, another unidentified drug, and a gun in Boosie’s car.
Boosie pled guilty to third-degree possession of marijuana on September 22, 2009 and was sentenced to two years in prison the next day. Judge James Moore doubled the sentence on November 10 after finding Boosie to have violated probation while awaiting sentencing. Between his plea and sentencing, Boosie was electronically monitored and placed under house arrest.
2. T.I (real name: Clifford Joseph Harris) From: Atlanta, Georgia

The verdict: Only hours before having to perform at the 2008 BET awards, Clifford Harris was arrested in a federal sting after his bodyguard-turned-informant delivered three machine guns and two silencers to the hip-hop star.
Authorities said that Harris, 27, provided the bodyguard $12,000 to buy the weapons, which Harris is not allowed to own because he is a convicted felon (long story how he got to be one.) Court documents said Harris was convicted on felony drug charges in 1998, and a federal affidavit said he has been arrested on gun charges in the past.
3. Gucci Mane (real name: Radric Davis) From: Birmingham, Alabama

The Verdict: Gucci attended a court hearing yesterday, November 12, to determine whether or not he’d have to serve time for an unspecified infraction that violated the conditions of his probation. He was sentenced to 12 months, but could end up serving only six with good behavior.
4. Lil Wayne (AKA Weezy F. Baby, real name: Dwayne Carter) From: New Orleans, LA
![]()
The Verdict: The only one of these four awaiting trial, Wayne pled guilty to attempted criminal possession of a weapon on October 22, 2009, . He is due for sentencing in February 2010 and is expected to receive a one-year jail sentence.
Reader, in a question somewhat related, how do we begin to stop the violence?
Last night I was sitting outside talking to an ex-dope dealer who used to wait at his door with guns…till he got shot in the head and now has one eye. He now takes it easy, and claims finding God after the madness is what made him fall back from a high risk lifestyle.
So I ask again, how do we stop the violence? Let’s hear your answers in the comments!

You can take the boy out of the Hood, But not the Hood out the boy. These rap artist are still people like you & I, If the cops wouldnt protect them, its up to them to protect themselves. So i say look at Biggie & Pac, if they were strapped would they still be here? So on that note I say stay strapped!I would rather do one year in jail then a life time in the dirt.

Much agreed, and I dont do drugs nor sell them. But no one can protect you but yourself. Don't get me wrong, I have faith, and I don't purposely place myself in dangerous situations. But with that being said, how do I know that a normal day to the grocery store wont turn into a violent rampage? I am from TN, we have laws where you can carry a handgun with a permit. I certainly have one, and it doesnt have to be conceiled. You betta believe I stay strapped, cockec, and locked without the safety on.

this people just want for a system that doesnt have to make them use a gun for self defense. Just make a system where it is not necessary to have weapons outside ones house. In other words make what they are selling "dope" legal and no more violence.

I honestly don't think the violence will ever stop until we start having more positive role models in the media. Getting locked up isn't really sending a good message to the youth that look up to these rappers. It's rather making it look cool to get locked up, which is a shame.

Cops are not the problem. And the white man isn't the problem. These rappers broke the law. And all their music does nothing but glorify killing, raping, dealing drugs, etc. They all should be incarcerated. And I thought the word nigga was supposed to be a bad thing. Rappers use it all the time. Should only black people use it? Take some responsibility. Get a job, stop dealing drugs, get out of the hood. Start being a contributing member of society. Just a thought.

U all need to understand the world we are living in. When u have Money u are targeted more. And people like lil Wayne and boosie who are rappers and doing good are goin to be targeted more. U have no normal life and when they go out they feel they need protection. Not saying that they are right because they should be setting an example for the kids but if u never walked in their shoes how would u know. Boosie said it best “take a walk in my size 10′s.” we are not to judge because we are not perfect. We should hope the best for them and hope that they learn their lesson and move in a positive direction
