AMA Rants: Worst and Best Dressed

First of all, we heart the stars at the American Music Awards this year.  What’s not to love? They give good tunes, treat our eyes and ears.

However, we need to get some stuff off our chests with regards to certain outfits chosen by our music celebs:

Loving Jay-Z’s retro cream tux. If only Alicia had worn a more classic evening dress, it would have completed the whole look.  Not that she looked bad, though, in fact it rated WAY better than her red carpet ensemble.

“The Young and The Robotics”

Fergie looked smoking hot, but the rest of the Black Eyed Peas look like they were torn out of a science-fiction comic book.  Taboo’s shades looked cool, though.

Seriously, how is it possible for Rihanna to keep taking it up a notch every time she does the red carpet? Riri donned a Marchesa laser-cut dress that looks a bit like a scrunched up paper doily (in a good way).

Later Rihanna appeared onstage, still going with the cut-out theme but this time more left out than in.

Next up is Jennifer Lopez.  Definitely not feeling this ’secretary seat’ getup.

As for her red carpet appearance, J. Lo donned a cut-out white mini dress.  Better.

If Leona Lewis had worn this dress to the book signing event where she got punched in the face by a random fan, she would have been able to protect herself with the space gun that must’ve come with it.

If Rihanna and Leona Lewis looked like they just stepped out of a spaceship, country singer Reba McEntire looked like she just stepped off her horse. This ‘ glam equestrian’ theme is just too much country.

On the men’s front, Adam Lambert stole the show by kissing another dude, but that’s another story.  Our thing is fashion, and while Adam’s updated Romulan punk look is not to our taste, it worked well for him.

We move over to The Near-Human Area; hey Ne-Yo! Our man was looking sharp as usual with a tight fedora and sexy-smart glasses.

But then we made the mistake of looking down…

Ne-Yo, we love your threads but the shoes just killed it. As in, killed your game. Just sayin.

Hard to tell where singer SoShy’s dress ends and her tattoos begin.

Okay now on to the ‘Got it Right’ side:

Whitney Houston was looking healthy and happy. Her daughter Bobbi Christina was also looking beautiful!

Hot new accessories alert:  Toni Braxton and her son looked fabulous.

Best Dressed Woman at the American Music Awards:  Paula Abdul. Yep you read that right.

Can’t believe we’re saying this, but Paula Abdul cleaned up real nice.  This time she got it all right, from the long-train gown to the rockstar jewelry on just the one hand. No more loud colors, nip slips, or too many accessories.
