The Life of an NBA Wife is Never Done: VH1’s “Basketball Wives”
As if the “Real Housewives of Atlanta” weren’t enough, who out there is interested in what the life of an NBA wife is like?
If that answer is you, then my friend you are in luck! VH1 has recently picked up the show “Basketball Wives”, a reality show about what else, the significant others of NBA stars. Production is about to start and will focus on six women from all walks of life: the baby mamas, the fiancees, and of course, the wives. The premiere will air March 15, 2010 (cue the Maury Povich intro music!) just in time for March Madness.
Here are the fine women this show will follow:
1. Jennifer Williams (wife of Eric Williams)
2. Evelyn Losada (ex-fiance of Antoine Walker)
3. Mesha O’ Neal (wife of Jermaine O’Neal)
4. Royce Reed (Dwight Howard’s baby mama. Fun fact: she can’t say Dwight’s name on the show for legal reasons)
5. Faith Rain (Udonis Haslem’s girlfriend)
6. Shaunie O’Neal (Shaq’s wife; also Executive Producer for the show). Hell, her and Shaq would do just fine with their own show:
Shaunie says about the show:
“Having been around these remarkable women for several years, I have always recognized that behind every NBA star is a strong, exceptional woman, one who must deal with the unique challenges of being married to the game as well as the player.”
Production is set to begin this month. This eight-episode, 30-minute series will definitely tap into some questions maybe some of us wonder about sometimes: what does an NBA wife do? Does she suffer from worries of infidelity to no end?
The press release states:
“…These ladies live the life. But living the high life is not all glamour. In order to protect it, they have to deal with the jealousies and dramas of living in — and staying in — the inner circle. They must also keep the groupies at bay while their husbands and boyfriends are traveling… wondering if their spouses are being faithful to them.”
But if it were MY show, my dream team line up would be:
1. Vanessa Bryant (Kobe’s wife. Wife of the arguably best player in the league; it’s only sensible. Plus she’s not bad looking at all!)

2. LaLa Vasquez (Carmelo Anthony’s wife; for comic effect of course. She’s pretty funny, right guys?)

3. Eva Longoria (Tony Parker’s wife, star of Desperate Housewives; legend to many a Maxim subscriber.)

4. Grant Hill’s wife, Tamia. You still have time to reconsider, VH1!
5. Allen Iverson’s wife, Tawanna (she would definitely have the best “stories” of the bunch I imagine.)

Who would your basketball wives be if you could cast for this reality show ? Let’s hear your thoughts in the comments!
I’m never one to kick a man when he’s down, but since VH1 probably can’t get the rights to replicate the REAL reality show that is Tiger Woods life right now, I guess this is the next best thing.

Just so you can correct your mistake Mr. Sanchez: Allen and Tawanna are still together and married.

Ugh Allen Iverson and his "baby mama" have been married for the past 8 years at least, and been together since he was in high school. You sir, are a moron.

It does seem like in every sport there is a strong woman behind the big star. She has to be to be able to take the spotlight and still keep things working at home.

What about Keisha Cole (Cleveland Cavalier Daniel Gibson’s baby-mama)? We already know her family’s crazy. . .
