Broccoli City and New Era To Bring Green Lifestyle Into The Urban Community
The Go Green campaign has been around since before the spreading of Global Warming issue. The movement has gained its mainstream popularity, despite the fact that this has not reached deep into the urban communities. There is still a critical lack of education about how and why to “go green”, and to change this, organic fashion company, Broccoli City (BC) has teamed up with the iconic cap company, New Era, to break through barriers to unifying and informing urban communities around environmental awareness.
Broccoli City is hosting “Project Green: Earth Day Edition”, an exclusive “who’s who” of the Atlanta community to showcase BC’s unique organic t-shirts, introduce New Era’s green movement involvement and promote the significance of Earth Day. The event will be held on April 17, 2009 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at New Era’s flagship store at 117 Luckie Street, Atlanta, GA 30303.
Broccoli City started off in 2007 as a t-shirt line, and has evolved to a nationwide green movement awareness campaign with a focus on urban communities. BC also utilizes other progressive marketing strategies such as traditional and video blogging at www.BroccoliCity.com, teaching organic gardening methods at a Greensboro elementary school and connecting with a Washington, DC-based nonprofit, Trinidad Concerned Citizens for Reform to promote sustainable practices in one of the Districtk’s most impoverished neighborhoods.
One of BC’s founders, Marcus Allen, explains:
“Educating people about going green and the environment is important because of how the environment and the earth is changing. The heat that is increasing -due to the fact of global warming- is increasing a lot faster in the southern part of the country.”
Allen sees that despite the increasing government support, there is still a concerning lack of green lifestyle support in the urban community.
“Most markets in an urban environment -or in a “hood” – don’t even sell organic products. I think it’s important for us to try to step in and do something about it.”
BC’s partner in the upcoming project is also a trendsetter, having originated the ‘True Fitted’ style, the 59FIFTTY. Since its debut in 1920’s in Buffalo, NY, New Era has produced over 35 million caps per year and gained its popularity in 40 countries. In the upcoming event, New Era will also announce a new line of caps, produced with recycled cotton.
