Urb1 Reviews Fashions At The BET Fashion Awards

BET, Black Entertainment Television, launched it’s annual BET Awards on June 29th, 2004. Known for it’s fashion, music, history lessons, and more, the show has really overshadowed previous shows this year.

SoJones watched the show and collected details previous to the shows running about who was wearing what. The major stand out of the show was none other than the jersey worn by Carmello Anthony as a tribute to Ray Charles. The jersey, created by Legendary Game, is a one time exclusive that is an addition to the long list of their signature “Throwback” collection so many hiphop artists and athletes have been wearing.

And speaking of jerseys, Chingy waltzed in with a custom embroidered sport’s coat that was sick!

An other noticeable fashion happening during the ‘04 BET Awards was the launching of Reebok’s new commercial for 50 Cent’s new G-Unit XT Mids shoe. Very reminiscant of Jordan IVs, you can expect these to be a top seller as the Icon seemingly gives a new face to whatever is hot in the streets.

And of course, when mentioning the fashion standouts, how can we forget Andre from Outkast? The multi-platinum selling artist came dressed in an African Safari like outfit from the 80s. Sharp to def in SoJones’s book because he was the only person there dressed as he was. A pioneer in fashion can never be denied credits.

Jay-Z (RIP) bka S.Carter, the starter of the “grown and sexy” trend that swept the nation in early 2004, had on a formal suit, laid back in the front row, chillin’ like “a real OG should”. S.Carter later performed some of his hit singles in a button down army commando type shirt, which has yet to be placed with it’s proper designer.

In the female attendees group, the number of standouts were much higher. Vivica A. Fox wore a dress that did wonder’s with her physique. Nude toned colors to match her complexion and a face any 30 year old woman would love to have, made Vivica a true fashion stand out this year. A. Fox was possibly the best dressed out of the actresses that appeared out on the award’s red carpet entrace-way.

Another urban fashion star was Malinda Williams! You might not recognize the name but I’m sure females across the country marvelled at the turqouise (possibly another shade of blue) dress that exposed her adomen area through a shredded mid-section covering. She also appeared on the BET award’s “after party” news cast hosted by Jackie Reed. And speaking of Jackie, all I can say is damn, it ain’t the dress America was looking at!

Other fashion stands outs included Elise Neal, Tracee Ellis Ross, Jackie O, Shakara Ledard, Slick Rick, India Arie for her purse, 3LW, and Carl Thomas.
