Notorious Wants to Know if you want that FREE Red and Black Lumberjack, With the Hat to Match?

by Jennifer Carroll

This weekend, the much anticipated and heavily hyped movie, NOTORIOUS, was released in movie theaters nationwide.  NOTORIOUS traces the life of Christopher ‘Notorious B.I.G.’ Wallace from his childhood growing up on the rugged streets of Brooklyn, N.Y. to his eventual rise to hip hop super stardom.

As someone who came of age in the early ’90’s, the exact time when Biggie and Bad Boy were first blowing up,  I’ve gotta say that I have definitely been  looking forward to seeing this movie. I vividly remember when the first single dropped from the ‘Ready to Die’ album. I could not get that catchy beat outta my head and the lyrics that brought back memories of my 80’s childhood introduction to hip hop”.

“It was all a dream

I used to read Word Up magazine

Salt N’ Pepa and Heavy D up in the limousine

Hanging pictures on my wall

Every Saturday Rap attack, Mr. Magic, Marley Marl

I let my tape rock ’til my tape popped

Smokin weed and bambu sippin on Private Stock

Way back, when I had the red and black lumberjack

With the hat to match…”

Now while  I did skip the indulgence of the joint and 40 ounce, I can totally relate to the Word Up mag posters on the wall, playing my cassette tapes, and my crush on the boy that lived across the street who had a fly lumberjack hat/jacket set.

Hip hop has been about style since inception, so it should come as no surprise that the trend setting styles of Biggie, P.Diddy, Lil Kim and Junior Mafia  would  be front and center with the release of the film.

Accordingly, leading urban clothing retailer, Jimmy Jazz has teamed up with Fox Searchlight Films on a strategic promotional alliance targeted to urban  consumers.
