Eclectic LA-based designer Brian Lichtenberg is famous for his unique cut outs, funky angles, out there designs, space age-themed outfits, 80’s inspired merchandise, and not to mention a solid celebrity clientele. After all, his namesake fashion line – which specializes in contemporary women’s and men’s wear – is a seven-year-old label which continues to appeal to unconventional and fashion-forward personalities all over the world.

Although loved by high-profile celebs everywhere, Brian Lichtenberg – whose fashion icons include Vivienne Westwood, Huseinn Chalayan, Nicolas Ghesquiere, and Helmut Lang – stays true to his fashion style.

“Very thrift. Skinny jeans, tank tops, ankle boots, my green Hermès Medor watch,” he explains. His love of 70’s to 90’s fashion is just one of the driving forces behind the designer’s one-of-a-kind collections.

The 28-year-old designer’s fashion aesthetics of neon colors and bold shapes are inspired by his thrifty, vintage wears during his teenage years, Japanese street style, and architecture. The fusion of these inspirations had given birth to the sensational “B.L.” collection which features patchworked sweatshirts matched with metallic leggings, cleverly-designed hooded tops, tank top with hems bombarded with loose fabric, among many others.

Brian Lichtenberg’s fascination with fashion started during his freshman year of high school. Tired of the khakis and polos he had to wear to school, he tried to express himself and his art through his everyday clothes when he transferred back to public school. Drawing inspiration from eclectic singer Bjork and some help from her mother’s old Singer sewing machine, Brian used paper and compounded them, making them his very own canvass. Little did he know that his makeshift clothes from paper and Fed Ex envelopes would be the precedent of his successful fashion line – notwithstanding the fact that Brian himself did not attend any formal training in fashion, just clothing construction class way back in High School.

Although his clothes lean toward the “sexy” side, showing skin is not Brian Lichtenberg’s cup of tea. As he said in his interview with Mean Mag, he tends to lean towards “things that are drapey, sheer, and maybe body conscious. It’s not overt.”

As expected, Brian Lichtenberg’s latest collection was a shocker. The young visionary designer found inspiration from unlikely soures such as toxic waste, slime, clothing morphing and warping, dripping. The theme was all about drips like that found in TV shows Ghostbuster and The Avenger. Brian explains: “It’s cool to think that this fleeting moment, or a small drawing, or something from your childhood – which I think is in a lot of my work anyway because that’s what we all reference – our past – can be a collection.”

Brian Lichtenberg merchandise fans include pop diva Beyonce, composer-musician Lady Gaga, R&B diva Ciara, Billboard 2008 top-grossing artist Lil Wayne, eclectic singer Katy Perry, renowned group Daft Punk, rap artist M.I.A., and singer Yelle.

Brian Lichtenberg merchandise have also graced the airwaves and pages of fashion media such as Make Me A Supermodel, Mean Mag, Vogue Hommes Japan, Oyster Mag, LA Weekly’s Style Council, Butterfly Black, Dazed Digital, Metromix, among many others.

Brian Lichtenberg are available in select stores in California, Nevada, New York and Massachussetts, and in international retailers in Japan and Taiwan. Fans can also obtain B.L. loot through Karmaloop.com and Welcomehuntersla.com.
