Costume Dept. is a contemporary clothing brand inspired by the nightlife sub-culture, emerging artists, and pop culture. The line, founded by Shawn Kelaka (a medical doctor by profession) and Shaun Samson (a graduate of the renowned Central Saint Martins school of Art and Design in London), is responsible for this eclectic line which truly embodies the fashion-forward underground scene. Costume Dept. is famous for its crazy patterns and unique designs which range from sparkles, metallic embellishments, and vibrant gold. True enough, these catchy designs have caught the eyes of trendsetters everywhere. After all, a unique outfit is not complete with some Costume Dept. in it!

Costume Dept. was created in March 2008 when Samson was busily designing leggings to give to friends during the Holiday season. These leggings caught the eyes of many, with a lot of fashion-forward Californians asking where they can get a pair or two. With this exposure, Samson collaborated with Kaleka to formulate a legging collection which would appeal to every woman’s fashion taste – from the ultra crazy to the super chic.

They made use of limited edition fabric to make sure that their leggings were one of a kind. Each design is created individually to make sure that there are no doppelgangers. Once the stock has been sold out, fans could no longer get a piece. True enough, Costume Dept. embodies the slogan “good while stocks last.”

Just after a few months, the news about this unique legging brand spread like wildfire. Soon enough, Samson and Kaleka have found themselves working feverishly on new styles, creating global accounts, and making a lifestyle out of their hobby. June 2008, the tandem has opened their online store, www.costumedept.com, to cater to the ever-growing needs of legging-hungry people all around the world. As of now, Costume Dept. has created over 100 pairs of extra-unique leggings. Now, the brand also sells bustier tops, trench shirts, fringe hoodies, mickey tops, and fringe tops.
