DGK, or Dirty Ghetto Kids, is a vibrant brand of decks, wheels, skateboards, and streetwear. The brand’s approach to color, design, and fashion makes it one of the most respected brands in the world of skating.

It was created by North Philadelphia native Stevie Williams, who became a skateboarding fan at an early age after being exposed to the underground Philly skateboard scene. At age 11, Williams got hold of his first skateboard, and would often be seen on the streets on his deck. The local skaters tagged Williams and his friends as the “Dirty Ghetto Kids,” but that did not stop him from pursuing his passion. Later on, this nickname became the inspiration behind the DGK brand.

Williams became the first professional skateboarder to be sponsored by Reebok. “It was a period of transition in my life; it was about business and not just being an athlete,” Williams said about his transition from DC to Reebok.

His first brush with fashion was when he collaborated in the creation of the “Flipside” Air Jordan sneaker. In 2004, DGK, which is distributed by Kayo Corp., entered a partnership with footwear giant Reebok.

DGK takes pride in its colorful shirts, such as the Will Not Lose, Will Skate, Eyes, Inspired, Classic, Babes, Only, Over Ho’s, Block, Line, Always, The Haters, The UGK All Day, The Hangman, The Aid, and The Lights Out tees. Not only are these for men, the Motivation tee is also available for women.

DGK also manufactures hoodiesn hats and skateboard decks. Skateboard deck include Babes, Noise, One Shot, Roll, Bones, Over Ho’s, God save, Stencil, Fallen Soliders, FDGK, Bombs, Motivation, Thirst McBride, Inspiration, Beast, and Pricepoint.

As for his design input, Williams says: “From start to finish; I work on DGK all the time with the graphic designer at KAYO. I have an actual brand manager. It’s a team brand and it isn’t all Stevie Williams. We work together to make the look go with the direction and brand. There’s a process that we go through to make things look hot for the brand.”

True to its mission, DGK also has its own skating team, which Williams describes: “We are all on the same mission – trying to come up and do our thing. We are not all from the city. We have a great relationship. Everyone brings something different to the table.”

DGK has also collaborated with UGK (also known as Underground Kingz), a prominent hip-hop band. The “All day” shirt is available only in limited stocks.
