In4mation is a revolutionary label founded by the fashion-forward quad of Ryan Arakaki, Todd Shimabuku, Jun Jo, and Rhandy Tambio. The label was founded in April 2002 in Mililani, Hawaii. As the label took off and gained throngs of fashion-conscious supporters, the once humble retail spot moved to Honolulu in July 2003. The boutique’s popular location made it a hotspot for visitors and locals alike.

Ever since then, In4mation has been deemed as Hawaii’s uthority to fashionable yet functional skate and streetwear. In April 2007 – exactly four years after the brand opened their first shop in Mililani – they launched their design studio and showroom in New York City. The In4mation’s New York studio became the “mainland” home of the label’s men’s and women’s collections.

The inspiration behind the brand was a Japanese cartoon called Voltron where its characters, when united, transformed into an indestructible “robot.” With that in mind, In4mation and its plus mark denotes a strong and unique bond and the label’s welcoming attitude towards different aspects of life. The brand’s philosophy – “I Shall Proceed…and Continue,” was derived from a line sung by a popular hip-hop band. This self-explanatory line inspires its patrons to pursue their chosen paths and to keep going on.

With Tambio as creative director and Shimabuku, Arakaki and Jo working on the operations, sales, and marketing aspects of the company, In4mation has become stronger than ever. It has also welcomed Elska Sandor, the co-founder of New York’s Rookie Skateboards, as the designer for the label’s women’s line.

With its fashionable wears, In4mation strives to continue to continue to build their reputation in the fashion market. After all, the label always goes against the “fashion grain” with its unique design aesthetics and one-of-a-kind products. From then til now, In4mation takes pride in bringing a fresh perspective in the fashion world.

As Arakaki says about the label’s exclusivity and underground feel: “Our consumer feels special when he or she buys something at our store that is exclusive. They know they won’t see 20 other people wearing the same T-shirt they just bought.”

In4mation continues to thrive in the fashion business because of its trendy clothes, accessories, shoes and hats; harmonious relationship with buyers, reps, and freelance designers; and the pro and amateurs skaters and surfers the brand supports. Included in the brand’s skater and surfer teams are Anthony Correa, Spencer Fujimoto, Jaime Reyes, Josh Sierra, Nikhil Thayer, Brad Johnson, Dariusz Ziemkiewics, Sean Kelling, Bernardo Bernard, and Anton Aggelint.

With the founders’ devotion to fashion, skating and surfing, it’s no wonder why the label continues to flourish. As Arakaki puts it, “‘I feel that there are many aspects to our success. For one, we live this lifestyle, we are in tune with our customers, because we are the same as our customers.”

In4mation goods have already landed on the pages of a number of magazines, such as Contrast and Vapors. It has also appeared on MTV.com and on KHNL, one of the local TV stations in Hawaii. As of the moment, In4mation merchandise are available at select stores in Hawaii, New York, California, Washington, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, and Tokyo.

With its fashionable and timeless clothes, In4mation sees itself  to become even stronger in years to come. After all, the brand believes in the philosophy “I shall proceed…and continue.”
