While most brands are focused on simply trying to survive the cutthroat world of fashion, only a few brands ever reach the coveted iconic status. LeSportsac is one of these rare few. Easily recognized, loved by the two generations, and constantly reinvented, LeSportsac provides that oomph to a highly functional bag that men and women can bring absolutely anywhere.

The LeSportsac brand began in the 1970s as a family business in New York. By 1975, LeSportsac made itself popular with its classic collection of travel bags and totes made from ripstop parachute nylon. LeSportsac enjoyed widespread popularity during the 70’s and 80’s until the hype for LeSportsac mellowed down.

In 2001, Timothy Schifter, co-owner of LeSportsac decided to change the focus of LeSportsac. Instead of targeting the 35 and above age group, Schifter decided to design bags for the younger crowd.

With this, LeSportsac quickly endeared itself to its audience and became the darling of pop culture. Its collection that won the hearts of the fickle-minded fashion-conscious crowd is the L.A.M.B. collection, designed by Gwen Stefani. The LeSportsac bags were also seen on the hottest TV shows around like Gilmore Girls and The OC, which only catapulted LeSportsac to the ultimate fashion bag stardom.

A LeSportsac bag is funky and classy, with its signature fabric that is both tear-resistant and light. Designs are found to have a wide array of color and a plethora of patterns and prints. Critics generally hail LeSportsac as the iconic nonleather good of the generation. Durable, stylish, and light, a LeSportsac bag is perfect for students and travelers. It provides just the right amount of style without sacrificing its utility.

LeSportsac focuses on handbags, travel bags, totes, messenger bags, backpacks, attaches, and accessories. In 2006, LeSportsac turned its efforts into widening its distribution. The LeSportsac bag is very well-loved in Asia but underdeveloped in the US and Europe. To address the issue, LeSportsac made major overhauls: brand Science LLC bought LeSportsac for a reputed $100 million and Elizabeth Kiester (former Global Concept Director for Abercrombie & Fitch) became the Creative Director.

Collaborations made for the brand include the famous Tokidoki art. LeSportsac worked with Simone Legno in 2006 to produce the collection that surpassed everyone’s expectations. Sales for the Tokidoki-designed LeSportsac went very well.

In 2008, LeSportsac teamed up with designer Stella McCartney to produce its limited edition “Lifestyle” series. The Spring 2008 collection featured multipurpose travel bags, luggage, baby accessories, and totes for mothers with young children. It was an instant hit. Celebrity moms like Catherine Zeta-Jones, Andie MacDowell, and Christie Brinkley were seen carrying a LeSportsac bag. Meanwhile, Oprah Winfrey bought the LeSportsac bowling bag from the McCartney collection. Other celebrities seen wearing the bag was the fashionable Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) from the HBO series Sex in the City
