“Monetary Reward or Gain; Money,” is how the dictionary defines the word Lucre. Derived from the latin word lucrum meaning “to gain,” the name truly embodies the spirit of Lucre Collezione – eyewear which embodies a high end and retro appeal.
Lucre Collezione was launched just last April 15 by Von Zipper, another great eyewear company. The collection is rumored to be the last collection ever to be designed by Otto Von Zipper - a reclusive philanthropist and designer – who wishes to “change the direction of eyewear.”
One of the founders of Lucre Collezione, Greg Tomlinson, said in his Vision Monday interview: “The Lucre Collezione is our canvas to challenge the direction of eyewear and make it the creative cornerstone of Von Zipper. We wanted to develop an offering of eyepieces that speak to our more fashion forward crowd by creating unique styles and limiting the amount of distribution and production.”
The Lucre Collezione boasts of five different styles made of propionate, which is an injectable form of cellulose acetate. This type of material allows complex frame designs to be derived from a solid sheet. Propionate also gives a warm and heavy hand-feel to wearers.

Additionally, propionate can host a kind of coloring technique which cannot be done with an ordinary injected frame. This phenomenal coloring effect is obvious in the Karmic model’s blue velvet hue and the Reuben and Lager models’ fancy leopard print. The Royce style boasts of a cast nickel silver logo with hand-painted details, while the Pandora model features a teardrop-shape aviator style. These chic sunglasses’ prices range from $60-$100.
True to its name, the Lucre Collezione, with some pieces created by Italian artisans, can only be purchased at high-end retailers such as Fred Segal, Goods, and Villains.
