Beautiful Printed Purlieu Dress

Purlieu is a brand based in the Los Angeles area that caters to women and teenagers. Their brand was created in late 2008 and has been grabbing so much attention because of their eccentric and unconventional designs.

Their collection is mostly composed of sexy one piece dresses for women.  Sky Ferren and Wynnie Crews, the founders of Purlieu, both shared interests in graphic arts and creating things. In their clothing line, the two make use of an art form they call “cross modernalism” -  a term that is meant to mix graphics with influences from the modern era to create funky and unique prints.

Their name signifies a frequent haunt or special place that a person goes to when they want to be alone. This is also exactly what their label is, a happy place just for just you.

Other than trying to create this “happy place” for their consumers, the company has been on the prowl, marketing their brand in huge fashion conventions like the MAGIC tradeshow in Las Vegas, along with being featured on major magazines like M.I.S.S. magazine.

They did their premier collaboration in an exhibit called Get Happy and Mothers. This was an exhibit that showcased children and bunnies playing with gangsters and thugs. Their experimental Native American collection represents an oft neglected culture that is Americana. Purlieu gets most of its inspiration from nature and American culture. They mostly use ivory cotton to have their bright and fun printed on. Their designs are very versatile – you can easily wear them doing your groceries or accessorizing them for a fun night on the town. Their design and project experience reflects a fresh take on fashion, showing that it is possible, after all, to be different.
