Sweet-bitter memories of a lost all-American rowdy childhood and old snapshots from the glorious 70’s and 80’s – this is the nostalgic fabric which fashion designer Andi Ballard and her brother Daniel have chosen for their now famous Rebel Yell streetwear label.

The young sister and brother duo founded Rebel Yell in February 2005. The name “Rebel Yell” was inspired by Andi and Daniel’s favorite wooden roller coaster. The label began small with some worn vintage inspired tees and hoodies. Andi remembers that their first collection was an instant hit. “From the day we launched the line at Project in Spring 2005, the response has been overwhelming. One of the biggest compliments we got came from a company we really respect – they wanted to buy Rebel Yell before it even had a track record. We wanted our independence, so we passed. With all the love we’ve gotten from fashion insiders and celebrities, it makes all the risk and hard work worth it!”

Deeply rooted in the melancholy of a past Virginia, the label’s style is influenced by folk and rock music from the late 1970’s and early 1980’s. And that is no surprise, their mom was a folk-rock musician and raised them with this style of music Therefore, art, fashion and music were always present in Ballard home to inspire the siblings. Andi left Virginia at the age of 16 to attend the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New York City where she majored in fashion design. Her style is also influenced by her time spent studying art and design in Florence, Italy. When it comes to her Rebel Yell fashion creations Andy says, “I want Rebel Yell to be super-fresh and easy to wear. The kind of clothing that doesn’t overpower you, but still makes you look damn good. I obsess about the fit and design details, and refuse to put out a product that Daniel and I wouldn’t want to wear.”

The brother and sister behind Rebel Yell only use for the most sturdy and comfortable fabrics available worldwide for all of their collections. Their raglans, hoodies, tees, button-downs, jackets and other streetwear are subjected to various manual treatments to get a beautiful vintage look.
