What happens if you put together SCIENCE and INFINITE? You get SCIFEN streetwear label, of course! Scifen is a concept based clothing company that does not do anything without a purpose. Founded in 1999 by Barmak Badaei, a young man full of ideas and courage, Scifen delivers smart streetwear with an abstract message: “our survival depends on the strength of our minds. It’s time to arm our minds, so do your homework. Scifen is the subject, life is the test.”

Barmk Badaei was a college student in Los Angeles when he created Scifen – now a successful and controversial streetwear label. He started the business in his dad’s garage with only six tee designs and a credit card with a $3 000 dollar limit. Now, he has a real office, warehouse and about four full collections for men a year. Plus he has had numerous collaborations with renowned hip-hop artists like El-P, Cage, M-1, Yak Ballz and Cope.

Barmk grew up as a b-boy. He was and he is deeply involved in the hip-hop culture, especially in the hip-hop fashion industry. He quickly noticed that streetwear brands on the market lacked substance, so he boldly accepted the challenge to fill that void. Scifen was conceptualized as a clothing company based on social-political concepts – a platform for Barmk to express his ideas about life and society.

Scifen promotes a style that mixes in a highly original manner hip-hop, graffiti and the pursuit of genuine knowledge about the world. Their designs deliver both substance and dazzling aesthetics. And that means a lot in a materialistic industry where most of the labels just screen print a tee in order to shock their customers. Scifen apparels are mainly designed by Barmak and acclaimed graffiti artist Ewok One. Barmak as creative director and Ewok as senior designer work closely together in all stages of the production process – research, concepts, development, design and marketing. Another important member of the Scifen team is Kevin Sanchez, who is assistant designer.

Barmak Badaei says some inspirational words about his brand’s mission and philosophy. “Scifen is the uniform for a certain individual. It’s for those who understand it. Of course their are heads who walk into a store, see it and buy it cause they like the design of particular items. However, we are very thankful for our supporters, family and fans, this is who we do it for. So, as long as our culture is around, we will do our thing.”
