Tretorn. Who hasn’t heard of them? If you’re a youngin’ you’ve probably never heard of them. But for those that lived through the 80s during their high school or college years, they know what Tretorn is all about. Tretorn shoes had a remarkable ubiquity. It was like a rite of passage—everyone wore Tretons. Now, the classic shoe is back and better than ever—gaining old and new fans alike.
The Tretorn brand started during the 1980s. It was established by Henry Dunker in Helsingborg, Sweden. The brand took inspiration from Sweden’s midsummer holiday, when everyone partakes in the outdoor fun, good weather, and entertainment. From this, Dunker created a sneaker that combines casual style and practicality, which was perfect for outdoor activities and get-togethers. Tretorns became the staple shoe worn at country clubs at New England, hunting lodges at Scandinavia, and tennis courts all over the world.
During the year 2004, Puma decided to acquire a division of Tretorn called “Tretorn Gullwing.” Brand manager of Tretorn, Antonio Bertone saw an opportunity in Tretorn with its rich history, classic designs, and no-nonsense stance with its sneaker line. They aimed to recreate and reconnect to the old Tretorn way: highly utilitarian, simple, comfortable, and stylish.
For its first footwear collection, Tretorn drew inspiration from its history of timeless design and functionality. They played with color, texture, and materials, creating a refined and understated look.
The brand launched its menswear consisting of cardigans, tees, jackets, and pants during the year 2007. They also have clothes for women and children, accessories, and eyewear. Tretorn is one of the leading brands for outdoor products in Scandinavia and the third biggest brand for tennis balls in Europe.

Currently, Tretorn is gearing up for the upcoming summer heat with its Recess – Lawn Series event, a 3-day outdoor fun full of games, food, activities, and bonding that offer 3 different sports each day, at the Governor’s Island. Tretorn is also the Official Ball of the Challenger Series Tour and sponsor of the Tretorn SERIE+, which involves the premier ATP Challenger Series tournaments.
The Tretorn brand upholds its legacy and stays true to its preppy and functional style. Its Gullwing Thule and Slask are waterproof and Gullwing Ballena and Sarek are made from lightweight material. Their collections can be found at high-end boutiques, department stores, and select online stores.
