Jabbawockeez, or JBWKZ for short, emerged as the champion dance group in the MTV program Randy Jackson Presents: America’s Best Dance Crew. The group—whose name was inspired by Lewis Carroll’s poem “Through the Looking Glass”—was formed by Joe Larot, Kevin Brewer, and Phil Tayag in 2003 as an effort to showcase freestyle dance. Current members Randy Bernal, Ryan Ellis, Chris Gatdula, Gary Kendell, Joseph Larot, Rainen Paguio, Ben Chung, Eddie Gutierrez, Saso Jimenez and Phi Nguyen later joined the crew.

JBWKZ has been so famous in the dance world that they have received praises from hip hop pioneers Crazy legs, Mr. Wiggles, and Poppin’ Pete. The group also graced several shows, events, and films such as Live with Regis and Kelly, The Ellen Degeneres Show, MTV Movie Awards, 2008 Much Music Video Awards, MTV Asia Awards 2008, 2008 Teen Choice Awards, the 2009 NBA All Star Game, and Step Up 2. They’ve also made appearances on music videos for Leona Lewis, DJ Drama, and Daddy Yankee.

The Los Angeles-based dance group is known for its “masked and gloved” performances, unique moves, accurate synchronization, head-spinning stunts, mime and kabuki dance moves. But most recently, a namesake clothing brand has emerged as a force that has swept the market by storm. As with JBWKZ’s goal to “inspire the world through music and dance,” it has now added “fashion” to its list of inspirations.
