Coleman Horn – perpetual traveler and founder of Vael

Vael designs stylish solutions to fit your active life’s problems. That’s why this premium footwear and accessories label will be your trusted companion for both business and pleasure traveling. Coleman Horn, creative director and founder of Vael, works hard together with the best designers in the industry, to deliver hot snug sneakers and ultra functional bags. Gearing up for that business meeting across the ocean has never been easier. Vael’s method for comfy success? Rough functionality balanced by consummate taste.

Colman Horn founded Vael in 2007 by making good use of his extensive designing experience, lifestyle and business acumen. Before starting his own line, Colman designed for brands such as Nike, Polo and Saucony. He quickly made a name for himself in the fashion industry and decided to start a unique business project with genuine creatives like himself. Thus, he created Medium Design Group and Medium Footwear. Medium was more a community of designers rather than a regular company. Every designer was completely responsible for the final product and paid according to the profit he made. Medium did extremely good on the highly competitive footwear market, but because of an unfortunate partnership with a European brand, Colman lost the company. Nevertheless, he hit back with a new brand and a new concept – Vael.

Colman has put a lot of thinking into Vael. And this is obvious if you listen to his intricate explanations on the label’s name and its philosophy. “It’s a couple of things. One phonetically it sounds like an outdoor ski area, high-end, it’s nice, it also can mean valley. It’s also graphically. I like E’s and I also like the graphic of A’s and E’s. And also if I was to broil the brand down to one word it’s based on travel. But when you’re traveling you only have the stuff you’re carrying with you, so that’s your insular bubble and that is kind of like your veil. Its like, what’s in your bag, you got a couple changes of clothes, shoes – that’s you – that’s what’s protecting you. It’s not like, Swiss Army travel bag it’s not like we’re going on vacation to Cabo or something, it’s more like, this is how we live.”

Vael is blessed with a team of fashion demigods, including Shawn Stussy, Mossimo Giannuli, Thom McElroy and Robert Beauchamp. Shawn Stussy is known as the “Godfather of Streetwear” for his pioneering style in streetwear design. Mossimo Giannuli is the youngest million-dollar CEO. Thom McElroy is a designer with vast experience in the youth market. And Robert Beauchamp was the fashion editor of GQ Magazine and the editorial fashion director for Esquire Magazine. With such a hive of creative minds, there’s no wonder why Vael products are featured in publications such as Thrillist New York, Highsnobiety, Slamxhype, Culture SHOQ, Kineda, The Awesomer and Selectism.

Vael puts forward a classic chic look with a sharp modern twist. The label’s collections are always shaped by a broad and attentive observation of today’s surroundings. The Vael diet for creative minds consists of blogs, mags, fashion art, industry tradeshows and traveling. That’s why you can be sure Vael is always one step ahead of the trends and closer to your needs.
