Subconscious Threads Interview SoJonesTv

To follow up on our Subconscious Threads interview from January, SoJonesTV caught up with Billy D’Angelo from Subconscious Threads at Magic in Las Vegas. Here’s what to watch out for in our interview:
- The inspiration behind the brand
- What hip hop artists are rockin’ Subconscious Threads
- How they develop their colorways and designs
As Billy told SoJonesTV, at only 1.5 years old Subconscious Threads is the fastest growing streetwear brand in New York. The inspiration behind the brand is to “bring to the forefront things that people reserve to their subconscious mind, but don’t necessarily express -through clothing.” This concept is definitely evident in the items Billy shared with SoJonesTV.
Their “Kemp” and “Air to the Throne” tees will really hit home with true sports heads. With Shawn Kemp and Michael Jordan being basketball icons in the 1990’s, Subconscious Threads is attempting to channel sports fans’ stream of consciousness into their designs. Instead of depicting Jordan as the dominant figure who led the Chicago Bulls to six NBA championships, Subcon Threads took the retro route and used an image of a young Michael Jordan who would eventually grow into the globally recognized figure we all know of today.
Shawn Kemp was a NBA fan favorite with his high flying and thunderous dunks. Unfortunately, sports fans also vividly remember the downward spiral Kemp’s basketball career took in the early 2000’s. However, Kemp is still very popular in many sports circles. Subcon Threads definitely captured the imagination and thoughts of true sports fans by displaying Kemp and Jordan on these tees.
Along with sports heads, Subconscious Threads is also catching on with some of hip hop’s up & coming and top selling artists. Interscope artist and good friend of the Subcon Threads brand, Charles Hamilton, can be seen rockin the “Kemp” tee in his Brooklyn Girls music video. Hip Hop icon, 50 Cent, is seen wearing both the “Arm Up” and the “Air to the Throne” tees in the trailer for his Before I Self Destruct movie.
Even with all the attention Subconscious Threads is getting from major players in the music industry, they still keep the brand fresh enough for the rest of us to look good in. By matching the color of their tees with the colorways of upcoming Nike and Supra sneaker releases, they make it real easy to put together a clean outfit.
It was great for us at SoJones.com to catch up again with Subconscious Threads. We look forward to watching their brand grow and make that jump to the next level.
